Have you ever heard the statement " Respond to situations, rather than react"? Oh...If I could only do this more consistently. Anyways.... in Battle Plan for Prayer, chapter 28, Praying Defensively, Stephen and Alex teach us an acronym for respond. "Christians are equipped with everything needed for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3), but many are not ready when the enemy attacks. So they continually live in defeat in one or more areas of their lives." (pg. 172) The chapter continues with the acronym for R-E-S-P-O-N-D.
- R - Resist
- E - Escape with Scripture
- S - Search for unconfessed sin
- P - Plead the blood of Jesus
- O - Overtake ground given to Satan
- N - Name someone in targeted prayer
- D - Delight in the Lord
Now don't get all "the devil made me do it" or freaked out. I think most of the time all that the devil might need to do is put the thought in our minds, like a dandelion seed or sticker plant. Imagine picking one and spreading the seeds around. Let's just say one or two seeds land in our minds. We think about it, ponder it. That is watering the sand burr or dandelion. The weed you don't want to grow has now become a habit thought (more watering). How do we stop watering it? That's when we grab our prayer strategy, we escape from the watering with Scripture, we plead the blood of Jesus to overtake weed infested ground, call trusted brothers or sisters and delight in the Lord. And never underestimate the power of praise!
The power of God's Word, that is why we have the library, because as He loves on us and guides us through His word we are blessed, healed, and given peace that only He can give.
FYI - Beth Moore has a lot of material that will help you with weeds or as she calls it "the pit".
